Realizations
I have been thinking a lot about what I like in photography lately. I like a lot of photographers but generally I shy away from snapshot photographers. I do not care for pictures of people just doing things with no planning. A person can be photographed with a good composition and good lighting by thinking the shot through. When shooting I often like to just sit back and view the area until I decide where I think might work. The only time this doesn't apply is children and I think taking unplanned photos is the best way to capture the true essence of child. Interacting with them and playing with them is important. But it is still no excuse for a bad composition.
The type of photography I really like is more surreal photography. I like HDR, I like saturated images, I like odd images like Dave Lachapelle. I don't care as much about capturing a moment in time. I like a story or an image that makes you wonder. I do like other types of photography. I love landscapes, portraits, still life, but I see everyday life everyday. I want to see more. I want to wonder.

Photographing a dark winter night.
These images are from a late night where I went out and took pictures of the snow and ice and then made them into HDR photos. I thought that it created a nice effect with the ice.

Day 1 of Knowing Place
Our first assignment in Intermediate digital photo is to shoot the same ten foot by ten foot area three times a week over seven weeks. We are required to shoot twenty images a day. I chose to shoot part of my backyard. I have a pond with a few angel statues and lots of plants. I think it will give me a large variety of subjects to shoot. The change in weather over seven weeks will also change the environment greatly. Here are the twenty images from the first day of shooting.

First Portraiture Assignment
My first portraiture assignment is photographing other students in the class to get a feel for photographing people and learning to use the lighting. Luckily I worked with a great group of people which helped a lot. I really liked working in the studio environment which is good because my favorite photographer works in a studio a lot. Little hard with direction due to my shy nature but it improved as it went along. Sadly I had to shoot this digital. I am really wanting to use a TLR for an assignment. I was going to use it for this but didn't figure the camera out till after the shoot. So next time.
